Time for our 17 Week Update...
Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and he's around 5 inches long. He can move his joints, and his skeleton — until now rubbery cartilage — is starting to harden to bone. His sense of hearing is also developing. The umbilical cord, his lifeline to the placenta, is growing stronger and thicker.
We had our 16 week appointment last Thursday. Everything seems to be right on schedule. The doctor said the heart beat was "nice and fast." She wouldn't tell me if it was nice and fast like a girl. I think they are trained not to tell you what they think it is. I'm sure they don't want you coming back and yelling at them if their guess is wrong.
We go back on February 28 for the "big" ultrasound. I pray our little one cooperates! Four weeks for today we'll know if it's a girl Baby K or a boy Baby K. Jay and I are both leaning towards a boy lately. I don't know if it's gut instinct or the fact that everyone else seems to think it's a boy. We are blessed either way!
Jay leaves for engineer training on Sunday. He'll be in Shreveport, LA for three weeks. I think he's anxious to see what my belly looks like when he gets home. We're both looking forward to the day it "pops!" I've started to wear some maternity clothes, but they are still kind of big. I'm sure I won't have that problem much longer.
I bought some baby clothes for the first time this week. I got the cutest little train outfit for a boy, and a cute little strawberry outfit for a girl. I think the strawberries will be so cute this summer -- if it's a girl! :)
